I never ever want to be separated from my daughter again. Those five days in Germany felt like five weeks! Running down the corridor at the airport towards Thiemo and Lia was overwhelming. Of course I could not hold back my tears, and so it took me a while to notice that Thiemo had dressed Lia in a onsie that read " I love Mommie". Lia didn't really know what was going on. But she squealed with delight when I kissed her belly, and then answered with her famous 'air kisses'.
Of course I got Lia a couple of presents from Germany: millet flakes, some wooden and lead-free toys, and the biggest present of all: her grandmother! Together we celebrated Lia's nine-month-birthday and topped it off by throwing a beach party in Charleston.
During her five fun days with Dad Lia practiced walking alongside our coffee table and managed a full round, learned to clap her hands, and started to tell long stories in a husky old-man's-voice while holding up both index fingers to stress her point. Listen to:

Yes, I missed out on a few new milestones, but fortunately Lia is quite fond of presenting her newly acquired skills, like waving her index fingers about when having something very important to say, and poking one of them into my eye every now and then.
Even though I felt like only half a person, it was lots of fun to be reunited with my old friends from university at Uli's wedding in Berlin. Alex (Tara's mom) not being able to attend the wedding caused yet another feeling of incompletion, as four won't ever be able to make up for five. Here is our famous 'Party of Five' minus one, with Uli as the beautiful bride:

Oh endlich!!!!
Da muss ein besserer Grund her!
Yippee! We're so happy you are HOME! Kindermusik, Gymboree and Starbucks, HERE WE COME!!!!
